Prayer Is The Key!

 In Uncategorized

My daughter Sara is a makeup artist and she is building her business.  She had an appointment and I was going to take her after church on Sunday.  A dear sister suggested that I let Sara hold my car and she would drive me home.  I was tired and so relieved that I would not have to drive her, that I just gave Sara my keys and told her to drive carefully  and get home safely. I got in the car with my friend and drove all the way home, about 40 mins away; only to discover that I had given Sara ALL of my keys…including the keys to my house! I was frustrated and embarrassed at having had this dear sister go out of her way (she lives 10 mins for our church) to bring me home only to discover that I could not get in! How frustrating to get to the DOOR of something you OWN, but have NO ACCESS TO because you don’t have the KEYS!!

In Matthew 16:19,  Jesus declares “ And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. “   Jesus made this statement to his disciples after He had asked them who men said that He was and Peter responds “thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Until we get a personal revelation of just who Jesus is, we don’t get our keys.  I would be an irresponsible parent to give my daughters keys to my home when they were not yet mature enough to understand and handle responsibly the access that having keys gives.  If the keys our Father gives us allows us access to bind and loose things in the earth and in heaven, it would be unwise of HIM to give us access to our keys without proper understanding of WHO HE IS and the absolute power we have access to through Him. The  Father invites us to get to know Him in prayer, in fasting and through His word.  It’s in prayer that we get to know His voice and sense His leading.  It’s by coupling our prayers with fasting that we tune in more intently to His voice and will. It’s by reading, studying and meditating on the word of God that we KNOW that we are praying according to His will (HE DOES NOT SPEAK APART FROM HIS WORD). These are our KEYS….

Prayer,  Fasting and God’s Word

How frustrating, How embarrassing,  frankly How absolutely SAD, that many us of leave church , go home and HAVE NO KEYS!

Prayer Focus:

Father we need a clearer, more distinct revelation of who YOU are. This can only be received by our willingness to spend time with you in prayer, fasting and reading your word. Help us be willing to pick up our cross (the things that make our flesh uncomfortable, but our spirits STRONG); and follow you!

 Homework:

Read Matthew 16
