Are We Wearing Things Not Intended For Us?
Even though there was a chill in the air this morning, I knew the day would be too warm for my comfortable sweater. It is too easy to simply put on our most comfortable clothes. As life is changing, we cling to our comfortable routine, our comfort food, and we tend to stick by the people we are most comfortable with. Although this can be good for us and make us feel better for a season, it is not always the long-term choice. And even though we know this, we still like to put them on. You see, we compromise too much to be comfortable. Comfortable is not always Righteousness! God is not happy with our compromise with us when we do not uphold “the doctrine which is according to godliness” (1 Tim. 6:3) and who do not represent the holiness of God’s character (1 John 1:5).
But what if! You were offered not just to a new wardrobe. But one that was “TAILORED MADE FOR YOU“, in exchange for your present one. Would you find yourself in a state of perplexity? Give it a minute! Reality just hit you. Ouch! We’re not just talking about that slightly faded, 1 or 2 hole having sweater you call vintage anymore. But your spiritual wardrobe.
Sometimes we think those comfortable clothes of our sinful lives look pretty good. Regardless of how much you’d love and perhaps need a new righteousness wardrobe, it can be difficult to part with your old, comfortable, easy to deal with ungodly attire. But in reality, we need to exchange those dirty old clothes for the robes of righteousness that Jesus offers to everyone who will accept his grace and mercy. What’s one to do? You’ll need to clothe yourself with a new wardrobe. Apparel that is fitting for the new person God is recreating you to become. As you put on your new God-tailored clothes—compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience—chosen by your fabulous Designer, you’ll grow, mature, and become more Christ-like, in thought, speech, and conduct. “And regardless of what else you put on wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment …” Colossians 3:12-14 MSG. The clothes that fit the best are the ones God provides and that would be the unique gift, talent or ability that He has placed into your heart.
Question: Are you going to compromise and be comfortable? Or are you BOLD enough to start wearing that Tailor-Made garment that was created by God just for you to “Walk It Out?“
