Down but not out!
“DBNO” – Down But Not Out!
2 Cor 4:8-9: “We may be troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.
When you’ve been knocked down, do you know have the authority to get back up again? The Living Bible explains it like this: “We get knocked down, but we get up again and keep going.” These 5 words should enlightened & encourage you: “cast down, but not destroyed.” You will take a knee or even fall on your buttock. But you are a vessel full of power. Apostle Paul shows us this and that these words acknowledge that as many times as we are knocked to the ground. It does not mean that we are permanently grounded. You might ask why would a good and loving God allow Paul or us to go through such trials and tribulations? The Bible clearly teaches that God loves those who are His children, and He “works all things together for good” for us Romans 8:28.
Look at it in this light. A boxer is considered technically knocked out if they are knocked down, and unable to get up in a composed, balanced manner. This must be done before the referee has counted to 10. If the boxer is in no condition to continue fighting, and is too badly beaten to continue, the referee has the authority to stop the fight. At that time the boxer is considered technically knocked out – TKO’d.
Paul shows us, that when faced with the possibility of being badly beaten or defeated. God through Christ has given us the ability to draw on our inner strength. To know that through Christ, failure can be turned into victory. The book of Proverbs says, “a righteous man falls seven times and rises up again.” It is good to know that no matter how many times we get knocked down, we can get back up again. Life is a series of Ups-and-Downs. Just remember that in our weakest state that God’s strength is made perfect. If you get up every time you fell down, you will have always gotten up one more time than you’ve fallen!
Yes, we all get knocked down at times. But, with God in our corner guiding & training us. We will not get knocked out!
