“I Am Simply a Beggar That Found Bread”
“And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.” John 6:35 KJV
A few weeks ago, I was blessed to host our annual family dinner at my house. What a wonderful gathering it was with my mother and all four of my sisters and our families. After we ate and were all just sitting around talking, the conversation led to “So what did your pastor preach this morning?” My sister began to tell us about how awesome service was at her church and repeated a portion of the message her pastor preached. One phrase jumped out at me, leaped up at me and socked me! That phrase was “I am simply a beggar that found bread, pointing the way to other beggars in need of bread.”
After dinner was over, family was gone, the house was all cleaned up and dishes washed; that phrase continued to play in my mind and twist in my spirit. “Have you EVER seen yourself as a beggar Stacey?” I began to really look at myself and to realize and admit that because I had been born and raised in church, on the altar and never really knew anything else… that I was a little haughty. I thought of OTHERS that were coming to find Christ for the first time after a life of sin as the beggars. I was saved and holy pointing the way to Christ for THEM.
The Holy Spirit corrected me and reminded me that “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourself: it is a gift of God. Not of works, let any man should BOAST.” I immediately repented and thanked the Lord for being BREAD for this Beggar!
May we always remember that without Christ we are nothing! May the great commission be our standard and remain always at the forefront of minds and churches in Jesus Name! May we never forget that we are simply beggars that found bread, pointing the way to other beggars in need of bread.
“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” Matthew 28:19-20 KJV
